The emotionally intelligent know emotions. Their own and others. And because of this awareness, they are then capable of navigating the strong emotions that others may have. Diffusing them with strategies that are much more effective than what we will often see.
How we get it wrong?

Swinging the pendulum in the opposite direction hoping our positivity will impact their negativity (or vice versa).
